Things You'll Need:
- Thrift Store
- Computer w/ internet access
- Ebay account
- Step 1
When shopping at thrift stores for the purpose of reselling, it is important that you do your homework. Research what is hot on Ebay by doing a simple search of which items are going for top dollar and make a list so you know what to look for when you are shopping.
- Step 2
You will probably do best shopping at thrift stores that are in a wealthy part of town. Most rich people won't waste their time trying to resell their own belongings and instead just drop them off at the closest thrift store.
- Step 3
When looking for Children's items, almost anything new with tags sells well. Boutique clothing lines, high end apparel like Hollister, Lacoste, Hanna Andersson, Ralph Lauren Polo, and Strasburg do very well as do European lines (like Oilily) not readily available in the US. Holiday clothing, especially dresses and matching sets are great, but will only fetch top dollar 1-2 months out from that holiday. Make sure you inspect each clothing piece for any flaws because it is really not worth your time to list it if it is not in great condition.
- Step 4
When looking for Adult clothing, again, there are numerous name-brands that sell quite well so do your research. Women's do better than mens and typically plus-sized clothing sells better than the smaller sizes.
- Step 5
Gently used handbags and purses can be good money makers. Vintage Vera Bradley and any highend bag with a visible logo will fetch top dollar. The main thing is that you need to make sure that you are getting an authentic bag & not a knock off. There are quite a few good websites that will help you determine whether a bag is genuine or not.
- Step 6
Books on CD can be found relatively cheap (Target often donates them to clear inventory)& if you can find a popular title, you may make a little money. DVDs and CDs are often not worth the hassle as they are usually scratched or will only fetch a few dollars more than you pay
- Step 7
Collectibles are a great find. Precious Moments, Hummels and even Willow Figurines catch a pretty good price, so when you can pick them up for a dollar or so, do so! Always look them over carefully for cracks or indications of wear as that will diminish their value.
- Step 8
One person's junk can very well be someone else's treasure! Once you get the hang on knowing what to look for, you will find that this is a pretty easy way to make some extra money!
